The Science

  • Cacao for a hit of anti-inflammatory flavonoids, chocolatey gut-loving fibre and a source of key micronutrients including magnesium, iron, calcium, potassium and phosphorous.

  • Black beans are a fantastic addition to brownies, not only for their fudgy texture but it’s a great way to pack some gut-loving fibre into your and your kid’s diet. Just one cup of black beans contains over 15 grams of fibre, helping you hit your daily fibre target whatever your age.

  • Reishi and Tulsi. Reishi mushrooms are believed to have stress-relieving properties, helping you to feel calmer and more centred. Tulsi also known as Holy Basil is a culinary herb with a slightly bitter peppery flavour & is suggested to promote relaxation. Overall, while there is some evidence to support the use of reishi mushrooms for relaxation, more research is needed to fully understand the effects of these mushrooms on stress levels and overall well-being. If you are interested in trying reishi mushrooms for relaxation, it is important to talk to your healthcare provider first, especially if you are taking any medications or have a medical condition.

  • Is honey a healthier replacement for regular sugar? Honey is of course mainly sugar but it does contain small amounts of other bioactive compounds, including flavonoids, phenolic acids, terpenes and more. Whether any of the compounds in honey are present in high enough quantities to have noticeable health effects is still an open question and it should still be consumed in moderation. But one recent meta-analysis showed that, compared to other sugars, honey had favourable effects on markers of cardio-metabolic health.
